  1. Go 229 ROCKET TRAINING

  3. The Gotha 229 was made of wood, since it
  4. was lightweight and metal was in short
  5. supply.  The designers also believed
  6. that a wooden wing hit by a cannon shell 
  7. would sustain less damage than a metal 
  8. one.  The wood construction, covered
  9. with a special radar absorbing paint,
  10. made this "flying wing" virtually
  11. undetectable by radar.

  13.                     YOUR MISSION
  14.  
  15. At 607mph, the Go 229 flies three times 
  16. as fast as a B-17.  Six of these heavies
  17. are flying in echelon formation in
  18. front of your jet.  Practice firing the
  19. R4M air-to-air rockets at the bombers
  20. using a stern attack.  After you pass 
  21. the bombers, "jink" in different 
  22. directions to throw their gunners off.  
  23. Because of the Gotha's speed, you 
  24. shouldn't have to spend too long in 
  25. their firing zone.

  27. When firing your rockets, aim them just
  28. above your intended target to compensate 
  29. for their trajectory.  Once you are accu-
  30. rate from in close, increase your firing
  31. range.  Your rockets have a greater range
  32. than the B-17 gunners firing at you, so
  33. you can hit them without their guns being
  34. able to hit you.

  36. Your Go 229 cannot be damaged and has
  37. unlimited ammunition.
